Austin represents oil and gas exploration and production companies and landowners in a wide variety of complex commercial litigation matters, including contract and property disputes, royalty disputes, breach of lease cases, lease termination/perpetuation disputes, and an array of other issues in the upstream oil and gas sector. Austin has prosecuted and defended claims in state courts and federal courts. Austin strives to find practical business solutions to complex issues, but if necessary, he works hard to implement effective strategies in the courthouse.
Austin also assists clients in acquisitions and divestitures of energy properties, and a wide variety of other transactional matters, including production sharing agreements, saltwater disposal agreements, farmouts, purchase and sale transactions, joint operating agreements, access agreements, surface use agreements, and master services agreements.
Austin has been involved in the oil and gas industry since 2004, working initially in the field and later in the legal department of a fortune 500 heavy industrial construction company that specializes in constructing refineries, pipelines, compressor stations, power plants, and renewable energy facilities. He has experience in large-scale insurance dispute resolution, construction contract drafting and review, contract management, and construction dispute resolution.
