Ashton’s primary practices include alternative dispute resolution, commercial litigation and employment law. He most recently served as the vice president of advocacy for the Seton Healthcare Family and executive director of Seton Foundations.

Ashton is a former Policy Advisor for Austin Mayor Steve Adler, where, among other things, he helped lead initiatives focused on equitable and holistic development (e.g., mixed-income housing, education, health and wellness) in Austin's Eastern Crescent, including the Spirit of East Austin and the Mayor’s Task Force on Institutional Racism and Systemic Inequities.  

He has been widely recognized in the community, receiving the University of Texas at Austin Dr. James  Hill Leadership  Award, the American Heart Association Power Award, Austin NAACP Outstanding Service Award Recipient, City of Austin Distinguished Service Award Recipient, Austin Metropolitan YMCA Will W. Miller Volunteer Leadership Award, and more. He is very active in the Austin community and has contributed to the well-being of the Central Texas region by way of service through several organizations, including as President of the Austin Area Research Organization (AARO), Chair of the Board of Directors of the Greater Austin Black Chamber of Commerce and Co-Chair of the AISD Bond Oversight Committee. When he joined the board of the Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce, he quickly became a vocal advocate for equitable engagement with the Asian, Black and Hispanic Chambers and their respective constituents. . Currently, Ashton is a a board member of HousingWorks Austin and E3 Alliance; a member of AARO; and serves on the advisory boards of the Austin Young Chamber of Commerce (AYA), Austin Black Chamber , and I Live Here, I Give Here.  And he  serves on the University of Texas Dell Medical School’s Admissions Committee.
